Duke Wellman is the OWNER of Wellman Motor Sports. He has extensive experience in the automotive industry, dating back to 1982. Duke’s acute business acumen combined with his knowledge of the automotive world have allowed him to grow Wellman Motor Sports Inc. from a small shop to a thriving Bosch service center which offers customers exceptional service and quality work. In his spare time, Duke enjoys golfing and spending time with family and friends. Duke and his wife, Joni, have been married for thirty two years and have two grown children, Crystal and John-Michael and daughter in law Courtney.
John-Michael Wellman attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte for his undergraduate studies. While in school, John-Michael studied business management and coached football in Gastonia, NC. He has embraced his role at Wellman Motor Sports and currently serves as the Office Manager and Service Advisor. As the Service Advisor John-Michael Wellman’s role is responsible for advising customers on which service or maintenance needs to be performed on their vehicles. On May 17, 2014 John-Michael received his certification in Advanced Scan Tool Diagnostics while attending the STX conference in Orlando, Florida. He uses this knowledge to diagnose and perform mechanical repairs at Wellman Motor Sports in Gastonia, NC.
Shop foreman Russell Grigg manages the Wellman Motor Sports Inc. service team and ensures all automotive repairs are performed efficiently, effectively and to the satisfaction of our customers. Russell’s extensive experience includes nearly three decades of hands-on experience. April 2016 will mark Russell’s 30th year of employment at Wellman Motor Sports Inc. in Gastonia, NC. His vast knowledge and firsthand know-how ensure repairs are done right and customers understand their vehicles’ needs and requirements. This is critically important in today’s high tech world.
Ezra Thompson started his career in the automotive industry when he began working on trucks in 1971. He was the head technician at Concrete Supply of Gastonia. Ezra worked at The Generator Shop in Gastonia, NC for many years before he began his career at Wellman Motor Sports. Ezra Thompson has a lifetime’s worth of experience in the automotive industry. He is a Gaston county native and enjoys relaxing with his family when he is not working.
Atwell Overcash is an ASE Certified MASTER AUTOMOBILE TECHNICIAN who successfully passed the examinations in all ten specialty areas on his first try. Out of his 15 classmates, only Atwell and one other technician scored so highly. In the areas of Engine Repair, Suspension and Steering, Brakes, Electrical and Electronic Systems, Heating and Air Conditioning and Engine Performance, Atwell demonstrated his competence on June 30, 1996 in Herndon, Virginia at the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence. Atwell spent many years in the automotive repair field working at PSNC in Gastonia, NC. After 28 years of service, Atwell retired from PSNC and currently works as a master technician at Wellman Motor Sports. In 1975, Atwell started working part-time in the evenings for Duke Wellman at his service station in Gastonia, NC.
